I rarely post my personal images but a little bird told me they wanted to see more images on-line from a photo outing I took a couple years ago in Minneapolis.  So here goes…
I chose these two images for a number of reasons but mainly because they go extremely well paired with each other.  The similarities are fairly obvious.  Both are portraits of men holding canes.  They share balancing colors that compliment the clothing (a serendipitous accident I noticed while I was making the images).  And there is a theme of vertical lines mixed with the organic natural elements.   I wanted to be sure to keep the compositional elements balanced and the background simple to allow the subjects to be the real focus of the shot.

That said, I hope that little bird enjoys this post.  Thanks for putting the fire under me to revisit these images!!

Angela Karp, co-owner of Arizona’s top event studio Angelic Grove, will be part of a discussion panel next week for AZ Central.  She and 4 others will be giving commentary on the upcoming royal wedding.  The discussion will be divided into ten topics (Kate’s dress, florals, bridesmaids, Kate’s hair, Prince William’s look …)

The magazine needs a headshot of her and we’re in a bit of a bind as to which one to send.  We wanted to get some viewer feedback on your fave.  A little background about Angela….She is a Brit.  Style maven.  Always impeccably dressed.  Incredibly sweet!!

Based on those facts… which shot do you like best…

These are images of my good friend and incredible yogi, John Salisbury. He practices at At One Yoga. If you’re ever interested in checking out one of the best yoga instructors in town, sign up for one of his classes or workshops.

The vision behind these images stems from the idea that yoga should be practiced everywhere and not just on the mat in the studio. The essential lesson of yoga is the challenge of bringing what you’ve learned in class and meditation into the real world. With this project, I wanted to find locations in the city that would compliment that philosophy by juxtaposing the beauty of the practice with harsh lighting and “found” locations that were not typical of a yoga portrait. With that in mind, I was careful not to over produce and over light the subject. The majority of the images are straight out of camera and all have minimal lighting applied.

At One Yoga recently acquired these images to use as part of their clothing line, spiritual gangster. Keep an eye out for them in their ads and products. :-))

John is balancing on the top edge of parking garage. To his right is a 40 foot drop.
