Justin, rocking it on the longboard!
This is one of my favorite first moments, where Renee's mom sees her dressed up for the first time. The mom has such an endearing look on her face that shows how proud and excited she is for her daughter. I made sure I had a portion of my frame filled with the brides veil to help tell more of the story of that moment. The shot would not have been the same without it.
How gorgeous is Renee! I can't stress how important it is, as a photographer, to always spend a few minutes during the day to make a beautiful portrait of the bride. As much as I believe in photojournalist and candid capture of the day, these types of portraits are so important given the time and effort all brides put into their hair and make-up.
This set of images was taken by my husband, Eric. I love his selective focus in these images and of course, the eyes of the bride who is about to see her groom for the first time. You can feel the excitement.
What an awesome way to personalize your day. This couple, as formal as they look, are completely down to earth. For them the day was about being comfortable and having fun.
I love how Renee is holding the tree and the lovely effect that our infrared camera creates with the tree.
How I love sunflare!!!
I wanted to include this image in my blog post since I tend to post the more portrait-oriented shots and not so much of the action shots. Plus it was taken by my husband, Eric, who feels like he's not well represented on this blog, sorry darlin'. I thought this shot was well composed and I love the slow shutter he used to emphasize the action. Nice work E!
These last two images were a couple of my favorites during the day. For the photo-philes, I shot wide open f1.8 with a video light. I opted no to use flash, since it tends to flatten the image and in this case I wanted the shot to look more romantic.

My source of inspiration for this shot was the painted image on the wall behind the bride. It shows three women seemingly dressing and interacting in a way that juxtaposes nicely with the bride getting ready.
Tarin is a strong and confident bride which I wanted this image to invoke. Low angle images empower the subject and also serve to create a blank canvas as a background.
I love the framing elements of this image and how the curve of the fountain brings your eye to the subject of the image.
This is one of my favorite wedding images. I love the sweet expression on both of their faces surrounded by the soft pastels of the grasses. The shading and color of the grass sets a soft tone for the image.
As you may see from this image and many others, I'm a big fan of light flares. So often this effect can create a visual explosion that makes the image come alive with more passion and love.
I love this image of John's dad giving the blessing. I purposefully positioned the light so that it would give him a strong silhouette and bring more emotion to the scene.
This image is pure fun. Compositionally, I tried to pull together both the action in the foreground and background telling the whole story. I don't think this shot would have had the same effect if it showcased just the bride or only her single girls. I set up lighting in the room so that both the bride and her friends would be equally exposed.

This is one of my favorite group shots of the year. I love that they played up the attitude and feel of the image.
This was from a wedding in Scottsdale, Arizona
I am SO happy to be presenting this wedding. Katie and Vincent are an amazing couple who have become very near and dear to my heart. Vincent was my roomate during my senior year at college (Go Buffs!). I was so honored when I got the call that he was getting married and they wanted to hire me. It's been such a pleasure getting to know Katie and reconnecting with my dear friend Vincent. They are a perfect pair.
Here are some of my faves...
I love color of the bridesmaid dresses. It was so vibrant and flattering on the girls.
I started tearing up at the point in the ceremony. Just before Katie's dad handed her off to Vincent, he asked Vincent to "take care of my little girl" It was such a sweet and sentimental moment. The look on his face really says it all.
The seamless coordination for this event was by CC and Paige at The Colorado Co.

The bride recently sent me this SUPER sweet note after viewing her slideshow:
"I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am with you and Eric's work- you guys are truly amazing!!!!!!
I am at a total loss for words (which is really rare for me!) The slide show is just wonderful- love the music, love the shots!!!!
I have been looking one by one at each of the other photos too- have barely gotten any work done today but I couldn't be more stoked! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!"
You're awesome Katie!
My good friend and local videographer extraordinaire, put together this little clip of out-takes of me photographing a wedding.

I have some blog catching up to do! This is one wedding in a series of awesome weddings over the past couple months. I'll be posting them as quickly as I can.
We're off to Colorado this weekend to shoot at the prestigious Arrowhead Golf Club. Look forward to some wonderful location shots from that one!!
In the meantime, enjoy Olivia and Chris' shots from Desert Mountain Resort. An incredible day with an incredibly beautiful couple.!!
A few weeks ago I was given the privilege to speak at a Beauty Night sponsored by Bright Event Gallery
and Imoni Events
The focus was on educating brides about the wedding day and how to look your best with tips and tricks from the different wedding professionals.
Among the speakers were:
Linda Wagner make-up artist
Jennifer Thye from Imoni Events
Claudia from Claudia's Pearls
Erin from Destiny's Bride
It was an extremely informative event and I was happy to receive some great feedback and emails from attendees.
Here are a few photo highlights...

I'm so grateful that they gave us plenty of time to photograph them before the sun went down since we were able to get some stunning shots of them.
I have so much catching up to do on my blog, I don't know where to begin!!
I haven't even posted our images from our wedding in September (with the exception of the holiday card). If you're interested in seeing our wedding images, let me know and I'll move that towards the top of my list of 'to dos'.
I'm hoping to have some images of our honeymoon in Austria coming up.
In the meantime, here is one of my favorite images from my good friends Christi and Matt. Their wedding was way back in November (!) at the Japanese Friendship Gardens
There were so many fantastic moments during this wedding and one image really can't do justice. So click on the arrow, crank the volume, and check out the DVD slideshow we put together.
I also feel compelled to post one of my favorite engagement session images from their session in the beginning of last year. I love this image for its simplicity, hyper-light, and soft feel which I purposely created in the post production. Matt is a landscape architect so it was only appropriate they be shot in and amongst trees. Their expressions and intertwining bodies create the perfect moment.
Trish and Matt had such an overwhelmingly beautiful and emotional wedding. We were so honored to be there to photograph all of the personal moments from their day.

I had the most incredible trip this past weekend. I was given the opportunity to photograph a friend and one of the most beautiful couples in Minneapolis. It had rained the two days prior and we were looking at a 93% chance of rain. Luckily, the rain let up just long enough for the ceremony and gave us enough time to drive around the city and capture some wonderful images. Janell and Peter, you were a dream to work with. Thank you.
I've had more than a few people tell me that they tried to find my name under holly schumacher (without the 'e' at the end of my name) and holly schumacher photography. I'm attempting now to put it out there in the google-sphere that you need the 'e' at the end of the name. I'm hoping that the search engines pick up on this correction for those who google the name wrong.

Dawn and Justin,
You are such troopers. Dawn, I am amazed at how you pulled through your day with food poisoning and still managed to look so wonderful.
Thank you for your amazing strength. Your love conquered all that day.
Couldn't resist this one...
I shot this at the Four Season's about a month ago. It's one of my favorite images! Thanks Chloe and Kameron for making it possible!
This is a shot of me in action. The bride and groom had a reception at a house in Kauai where there was a no shoes policy.
It was such an amazing day and Katherine and Paul were one of the best couples to work with.
